Adelaide Tattoo Expo cancelled…

The entire tattoo community is reeling with the sudden cancellation of the Aus Tattoo Expo's upcoming event in Tarntanya (Adelaide), along with Rites of Passage in Warrane (Sydney) and Naarm (Melbourne).

The event organisers emailed all artists on September 24th, 2024, to say that the events were postponed indefinitely due to legal disputes between the business owners. Each artist who purchased a booth at these events is out-of-pocket in the order of thousands of dollars and the organisers have not offered refunds. Many have put endless hours into preparing for these events, including our co-owner, Allanah (@panko.tattoo), who had been preparing to compete in the event.

2024 has been a grim year for many, and these expos offered the opportunity to get together as a community in solidarity, support, and a celebration of resilience. To have the rug pulled out only two weeks before the event isn't just a devastating blow to the hip pocket, but to the heart strings as well.

In the fallout of this cancellation, it's been so beautiful to see the tattoo community galvanise - artists and clients alike. Everyone has been reaching out to each other, checking in with each other, and showing up for each other. Loads of studios in Adelaide are offering up guest spots to artists who had bought flights to Adelaide for the expo, and flash days have popped up which offer the opportunity for clients to scratch their tattoo itch as well as supporting the artists who've been affected by this cancellation.

Loads of awesome events will still be happening in and around the CBD next weekend. Check out the list below, and DM us on the gram if you've got something to add to the list!
